Nature Intertwined
The newly opened Whale Tail Gallery at Point Lookout will present its first group exhibition, Nature Intertwined, featuring seven artists from North Stradbroke Island / Minjerribah. The new Whale Tail Gallery is located next door to Whale Tail Gelati and across from the well-known Straddie Gorge Walk at Point Lookout.
Natural Beauty
Straddie is well known for its stunning nature, breathtaking beaches, wildlife encounters, and resident artists, many of whom are familiar to mainland art lovers through the annual Straddie Arts Trail. Some of the featured artists have exhibited nationally and internationally. The exhibition celebrates the island’s natural beauty through a diverse range of artistic practices inspired by local landscapes, flora and fauna.
Exhibition features
Throughout April, the participating artists will present new works reflecting their individual responses to the island environment. Artworks on display include large and small paintings, mixed media works, award-winning photography, Japanese-inspired “Island Gyotaku” (organic fish prints), and plant-generated biochromes.
Visitors will have opportunities to meet some of the artists during the exhibition, with artist talks and workshops planned throughout April, with details to be announced on the gallery’s social media pages.
The featured artists are:
Renata Buziak, Kathy Townsend, Gil Scrine, Bernadette Mollison, Julie Sisco, Penny Gillespie and Trish Lake.
From the Gallery Owner Peta Green:
“Nature Intertwined brings together artists who live and work on Minjerribah and draw inspiration from its landscapes, flora and wildlife. As the gallery’s first group exhibition, it celebrates the island’s creative community and the natural beauty that inspires their work.”
