Held in Blue: exhibition and Cyanotype Tote Bag Workshop
with Renata Buziak & Elisa Jane Carmichael
‘Held in Blue’ brings together Elisa Jane Carmichael and Renata Buziak in a series of collaborative cyanotype tote bags created especially for the Arts Trail, alongside individual works. In shades of blue, flora and light become vessels for Island stories, held and revealed through cyanotypes and biochromes.

Create your own beautiful cyanotype tote bag using botanical materials inspired by the flora of Minjerribah, and discover the magic of printing with sunlight.
Guided by artists Renata Buziak and Elisa Jane Carmichael, you’ll explore the historic sun-printing process using botanical materials while learning creative techniques, composition, and the stories behind our collaborative exhibition, Held in Blue.
Workshop highlights
- Create and take home your own large cyanotype tote bag.
- Learn the historic sun-printing process of cyanotype.
- Guided by exhibiting artists Renata Buziak and Elisa Jane Carmichael.
- All materials and equipment supplied.
- Small group experience – maximum 5 participants.
- Suitable for beginners (15+). No experience necessary.

About The Artists:
Dr Renata Buziak is a biochrome photo-media artist, researcher, and educator with over 15 years of teaching experience.
With a focus on plant life and helping people to reconnect with nature, her captivating artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Renata holds a PhD from Queensland College of Art, Griffith University. Her art has received several awards and is featured in private and public collections, on ABC TV’s Gardening Australia, and at Binna Burra Lodge since her inaugural art residency there in 2022.
Elisa Jane Carmichael is a Ngugi woman belonging to the Quandamooka people (Moreton Island / Mulgumpin and North Stradbroke Island / Minjerribah, Queensland). Her practice draws on Ancestral knowledge, matrilineal connections, memories of place and relationships with Country. She is passionate about shining a light on the cultural brilliance of her Ancestors so that these stories can be kept alive for future generations.
Elisa has a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, and a Master of Fine Arts, Queensland University of Technology. Her work is held in private and public collections across Australia and internationally.
