Creating environments for mental and physical wellbeing through my art, and helping people to reconnect with nature, is at the core of my practice.

Providing support to evoke positive emotions, joy and inspiration for people in fragile times in their lives, in need of physical healing themselves, their loved ones, or to hospital staff, is a privilege.

Healing Horizons

by Susan Yang

Healing Horizons explores the intersection of art, culture, and healing through the unique perspectives of three artists: Shu-Hua Chen, Rolo Allemand and Renata Buziak.

Drawing from their rich cultural backgrounds, the artists from Taiwanese, Chilean, and Polish communities present works that reflect their personal and collective journeys. The exhibition fosters a dialogue on resilience, connection, and the shared human experience across diverse cultural landscapes.

Set in the nurturing environment of the Sunnybank Private Hospital, the artwork becomes a bridge between heritage and healing, offering solace and inspiration to both viewers and patients alike. Through vibrant expressions and reflective compositions, the exhibition invites audiences to explore how art transcends borders, providing comfort and hope across horizons of difference.”

More info and links to works by Shu-Hua Chen, and Rolo Allemand coming soon.

Habitat series

In this exhibition you’ll see a few artworks from my Habitat series (also pictured on this page).

Gardeners from the Pine Rivers region opened their precious gardens, and homes, to share their stories with myself and Lynette (Spry) Letic in 2015. In my biochrome images I aim to present each garden through the transformation of its flora in biochromes, while Lynette photographed places and their owners.

The Habitat I image (detail in the banner above) includes plants form several gardens of Pine Rivers region. During the biochrome process of image making the transformation of both plants and photographic materials allows for imprints and plants in the paper through this collaboration with nature

The image you see in the centre of the page Seasons and Colours, Venus and John (Mt Glorious) features flowers from Venus and John’s garden at Mt Glorious.

Looking out onto her beautiful flowering trees Venus said:

“It is my outdoor vase of flowers, my outdoor flower arrangement that nature has done”.

Gondwanan Biochromes

The Healing Horizons exhibition also includes several of my Gondwanan Biochromes. These images are a result of a recent art residency on the Binna Burra Cultural Landscape in the Scenic Rim, nestled within the World Heritage Gondwana Rainforests of Australia, at Woonoongoora (Lamington National Park), Yugambeh region.

Immersed in the rainforest, I drew inspiration from Gondwanan lineage plants to capture their essence, while collaborating with local paleobotanist Dr Ray Carpenter who remarked “… nowhere else on Earth is there such a rich representation of vegetation with links to ancient Gondwanan floras …”.

In this exhibition you’ll experience Biochrome images, which go beyond mere representation, embodying a collaboration with nature itself. They capture the essence of plant life on paper and textiles, fusing my lifelong passions for nature and photography.

The works serve as a reminder of our interconnectedness with nature’s rhythms. Through my exhibitions, I invite you to pause, reflect, and rediscover the beauty that surrounds us, deepening our appreciation for the unique ecological heritage preserved within our landscapes.

Other Gondwanan Biochromes artwork you can view online, most are available, and a few are in my online Store. Please enquire via the contact page.
