HERE AND NOW: GOLD COAST TRIENNIAL

A contemporary art exhibition exploring the depth and dynamism of the Gold Coast’s creative community.

A collection of works of art by 42 artists working in diverse disciplines, who are deeply connected to the Gold Coast, Queensland.

HOTA was working with six Gold Coast artists to create new work for the Triennial, and invited other artists to include their works in a “salon’ group ehxibition. I’m grateful to have my image of a Tree Fern incuded in the show.

In 2022, as the inaugural Artist-in-Residence on Binna Burra Cultural Landscape, situated within World Heritage Rainforest of Australia on Yugambeh Country, I had an opportunity to work with Gondwanan lineage plants, guided by a local paleobotanist Dr Ray Carpenter.

In my studio I collaborate with nature, embrace organic decomposition, fusing photographic and organic materials, a process I call the biochrome. It facilitates a transformative dialogue between the materials over time. The resulting abstract images maintain characteristics of the depicted flora.

“Held every three years at HOTA Gallery, the Gold Coast Triennial is thought-provoking, irreverent and playful, evoking a contemplative atmosphere”.
