Weathered Continuum III
From the Wildflowers of the Granite Belt series
Created with native wildflowers from the Granite Belt region of Queensland, Weathered Continuum II is part of a series developed on a forested property where The Piano Mill hosts annual gatherings of experimental music and art — a space alive with creative exchange and sonic exploration.
This piece was especially inspired by the beautifully designed Lagavulin concert venue and Erik Griswold’s evocative composition Hollows Out of Time.
The venue’s pastel-coloured natural stone, raw concrete, and soft timber finishes, along with Erik’s work in progress, offered a quiet and meditative atmosphere that deeply influenced the creation of this work. The first edition of Weathered Continuum III, with 2 other accompanying works (Weathered Continuum I & II), now lives permanently at Lagavulin, enriching the restful space into which music gently flows.
The wildflowers featured in the 3 images include Chrysocephalum apiculatum (Yellow buttons), Xerochrysum bracteatum (Golden everlasting), Wahlenbergia graniticola (Granite bluebell), Geranium neglectum (Swamp cranesbill), and Desmodium gunnii (Slender tick trefoil) - gathered on the property’ new Lagavulin.
Created through my signature biochrome process — which fuses photographic materials with organic matter over time — this artwork reveals the natural cycles of decay, renewal, and belonging. A celebration of Australian flora, Weathered Continuum II is also a meditation on connection: with place, with others, and with nature’s ever-changing rhythms.
