Private Residence / Brisbane / 2023

Dorota and Alex loved the natural light in their spacious kitchen — but the harsh afternoon sun made it difficult to enjoy. With a wide, over 3-metre window framing their garden, they didn’t want a plain roller blind that would block the view and leave them staring at a blank wall. Instead, they envisioned a solution that could offer shade, preserve beauty, and become an interactive artwork.

As lovers of both art and nature, they commissioned a custom roller blind featuring one of my biochrome artworks, collaborating with me to select an image that reflected the calm, creative atmosphere of their home — a space where they share a passion for cooking and hosting.

The chosen work, Tree Fern (Cyathea australis) Nebula, is part of my Gondwanan Biochromes series, created during an artist residency at Binna Burra in the Scenic Rim region of Queensland. Printed on a translucent blind, the image filters light during the day and glows softly at night — shifting with time and weather, just like the living landscape outside.

This commission combines functionality with organic beauty, and brings the ever-changing rhythms of nature indoors in an intimate, practical way.

If you’re interested in working together on a new project, I welcome commission enquiries and creative collaborations.
