Gondwanan Biochromes at the new state-of-the-arts Everton Park Library
Libraries are not just buildings filled with books; they’re vibrant community spaces where art and culture thrive.
The new Everton Park Library in north Brisbane opened on 9 March with a special Welcome and Smoking Ceremony by the local Traditional Custodians and celebrations with about 3000 visitors on the first day!
Do you like reading outdoors? This library with its nature inspired features, is connected with Fallon Park providing a huge deck looing over the treetops.
I’m thrilled that through my art-science research, and collaborating with nature itself, I’m able to facilitate a deeper connection between people and the natural world, by bringing nature through art indoors to such places as this beautiful library. Biophilic design.
Artist-in-Residence at Binna Burra
Several images on display at the Library are from my recent Art Residency at the Binna Burra Cultural Landscape, nestled within the UNESCO World Heritage Rainforest of Australia in Lamington National Park, Yugambeh region. Immersed in the rainforests of this ancient land, I drew inspiration from Gondwanan plants reflecting the intricate beauty of flora. Images on display include the majestic Nothofagus moorei, also known as the Antarctic Beech,
At Binna Burra I had the privilege of working with a local paleobotanist Dr Ray Carpenter, who remarked,
“… nowhere else on Earth is there such a rich representation of vegetation with links to ancient Gondwanan floras …”.
Following this exhibition, I invite you to immerse yourself in my solo showcase of over 30 works in the upcoming exhibition “Floras of Gondwanan Heritage” at The Centre Beaudesert.
Solo exhibition at Beaudesert
Opening on 18 May with a performance by the esteemed Bloom Collective, this exhibition promises to be a journey into the heart of ancient botanical wonders. Visitors can explore the works on paper, textiles and video until 13 July 2024, experiencing firsthand the intersection of art, science, and the natural world.
We are all interconnected in the rhythms of nature. Through my art, I invite you to pause, reflect, and rediscover the awe-inspiring beauty that surrounds us.
