In 2022 Binna Burra Lodge invited me to create my signature biochrome images on the Binna Burra Cultural Landscape, as the inaugural Artist-in-Residence (AiR) in the legacy of Vida Lahey, a prominent Queensland artist and educator (1882 – 1968), and I was greatly honoured to receive this opportunity.

I created this work during the residency as part of my 'Gondwanan Biochromes' series of rainforest flora, with focus on Gondwanan lineage plants. Gondwanan plants in this image: Black Wattle (Callicoma serratifolia), Tree Lomatia (Lomatia arborescens), Hoop Pine (Araucaria cunninghamii), Antarctic Beech (Nothofagus moorei).

Binna Burra, located on the Yugambeh language groups’ country, in the World Heritage area of Woonoongoora / Lamington National Park in Queensland, allows visitors to experience unique flora, of which ancestral lineages go back to Gondwanaland millions of years ago.

During my research at Binna Burra I worked with a local paleobotanist Dr Ray Carpenter who advised and helped me locate Gondwanan lineage plants on Binna Burra land. Ray said:

“... rainforests at Binna Burra and surrounds are part of our World Heritage: nowhere else on Earth is there such a rich representation of vegetation with links to ancient Gondwanan floras …”.
